Extras
Once you have chosen your surfboard, there are some optional extras to make your surfing experience more enjoyable.
Leg Ropes / LeashesA must for every surfer, the leg ropes attach you to your surfboard which saves many swims back to the beach. Also it's a lot safer for the other surfers who are paddling out.
Surfing Wax
Without it, attempting to stand up on your surfboard would be attempting the impossible. Surfing wax is applied to the deck of your surfboard (where you would place your feet). There are many types of surfing wax and most are satisfactory. There are warm and cold water waxes which is dependent on where you are going for a surf.
Wax Combs
Wax Combs are great for combing though your wax (once it's on your surfboard) to make it more rigid and thus giving you more grip. They are also used for removing wax as well.
Tail Grip Pads
Tail grip pads sick onto the rear (top) of your surfboard. The tail pad will give you grip under your back foot and most have an arch at the back to prevent your back foot from slipping off the back of the board. Some surfers may choose to just use wax instead, it's down to the individual's preference. If you buy your surfboard from a shop, ask the assistant to apply the tail grip pad for you.
Surfboard Covers
Surfboard Covers are great for protecting your surfboard and make transporting your surfboard much easier. There is a range of surfboard covers with many different features, one point to keep in mind is that they come in different sizes to match the sizes of the surfboards.
